‘I’ve never supported Alan’ – Osafo-Maafo responds to claims on social media

‘I’ve never supported Alan’ – Osafo-Maafo responds to claims on social media

The Office of the Senior Presidential Advisor, Yaw Osafo-Maafo has denied supporting Minister for Trade and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen’s candidature in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential flagbearership race.

Reports on social media had suggested that Osafo-Maafo had declared his support for Mr. Kyerematen as against, Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumua.

However, a statement from his office said such reports are false.

“With reference to the said circulation, we emphasise that Hon. Yaw Osafo-Maafo has never uttered such irresponsible, misguided, tribalistic and ethnocentric statements either in public or private, directly or indirectly and has no cause to do so.”

The NPP in December 2023 will elect a new flagbearer ahead of the 2024 election.

The Office of the Vice President has already declared publicly that Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia will contest as flagbearer of the NPP.

Some other names that have emerged as persons interested in contesting in the race are Minister of Trade and Industries, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen as well as the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto.

Dr. Bawumia, has said the governing New Patriotic Party will break the eight years election cycle in Ghana with a victory in the 2024 polls.

He has said that his aim is to sustain the socio-economic gains that the Akufo-Addo administration has achieved.

Mahama’s record in political violence bad – Buaben Asamoa

Mahama’s record in political violence bad – Buaben Asamoa

Former President John Dramani Mahama has poor records when it comes to political violence, Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP),Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has said.

Mr Boaben Asamoa noted that the 2020 general elections were largely peaceful therefore, attempts by Mr Mahama to discredit the elections will not work.

Mr Mahama had, among other things, accused the Chair of the Electoral Commission (EC) Jean Mensa of rigging the polls in favour of the NPP.

“More than one million extra ballot papers were printed, which the EC claimed happened by mistake but on the day of the elections, some of the more than one million extra ballot papers had already been secretly thumb-printed in favour of the NPP,” he said while addressing the Divisional Chief of Prestea Himan, Nana Nteboah Prah, recently, as part of his Thank You tour of the Western Region, .

He added “And, so, all these things dented the credibility of the polls and caused an embarrassment.”

He added: “I heard her [Jean Mensa] say ‘it’s the best election Ghana has ever had and yet you run away from scrutiny at the Supreme Court.

“So, how do you boast that it’s the best election ever?”

But addressing a press conference in Accra on Friday October 15, Mr Buaben Asamoa who is also a former lawmaker for Adentan said “Only losing candidate Mahama and his cabal in the NDC  continue to deceive themselves  about the outcome of the 2020 elections . The heart-warming record of achievement that the conduct of the elections chalked deserves better from  the one who seeks to lead the country  coming next elections.

“In fact, his posture on the election does not edify the sacrifice of Ghanaian voters  who queued  in defiance of covid-19  to register and vote. Often,  the same breadth, he reminds  Ghanaian families of the pain of losing loving ones during post votes collation  by mischievously referring  to the regrettable deaths.

“President Akufo-Addo is on record as saying that not a drop of Ghanaian blood  is worth exchanging  for electoral victory  and the steps he took  against vigilantes literally ensured them  the most peaceful  voting process ever. In the 2020 elections we didn’t hear anything about vigilante groups, the BBC described the elections as boring, as the electoral  commissioner has said.

“True leadership will not focus on the unfortunate and painful situation for political gains  to the detriment of  national peace  of mind . In any event, former President and candidate Mahama has a very poor record in terms of political violence.

“He is the one who brushed aside the infractions of the Talensi by-election when guns were flowing about including the vehicle of his party’s National Chairman.”

Ceres 100% Apple Juice recalled over excess levels of toxins — Kasapa102.5FM

Ceres 100% Apple Juice recalled over excess levels of toxins — Kasapa102.5FM

The Food and Drugs Authority(FDA) in collaboration with South African food and beverage manufacturer Pioneer Foods has recalled Ceres 100% apple juice brands from the market.

The identified batches of the apple juice product are being recalled after the overconcentration of patulin was detected, the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in Ghana said in a statement on Friday (October 15, 2021).

“This follows information received from the International Food Safety Network (INFOSAN) and the manufacturer of the product, Pioneer Foods Groceries (Pty) Limited, South Africa confirming that extensive laboratory tests and consultations with their local supplier of the apple juice concentrate, revealed that it contained levels of mycotoxin-patulin higher than the regulatory threshold,” said the FDA.

The Ghana FDA has listed the details of the affected batches in Ghana which are considered unwholesome for consumption.

Patulin is a fruit-based mold which when consumed can cause nausea, gastrointestinal disturbances, and vomiting, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

NDC sacks two constituency chairmen, other executives

NDC sacks two constituency chairmen, other executives

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Savannah Region has stripped its constituency chairmen for Salaga South and Daboya-Mankarigu of their positions.

The action against Haruna Salifu and Alhaji Mohammed Mutala as NDC chairmen for Salaga South and Daboya-Mankarigu respectively were contained in a letter dated October 14, 2021.

It was signed by the Savannah Regional Secretary of the NDC, Salisu Be-Awuribe and copied to the National Chairman of the party, its General Secretary and the Daboya-Mankarigu constituency Secretary.

Similar actions were taken against six other constituency executives for acts said to have contravened the party’s constitution.

“Adverse findings were found against them by the Regional Disciplinary Committee to the effect that some of their actions in the constituency contravened some sections of Article 48 (8) of the party constitution.”

“Consequently, in the exercise of the powers vested in the Regional Executive Committee of the party as per Article 48 (9) of the Constitution, the Regional Executive Committee at its meeting on the 7th of October 2021, resolved to relieve the above-named officers of their positions they once held in the Salaga South Constituency Executive Committee with immediate effect.”

Also “The former Chairman, Mr. Haruna Salifu and former Organiser, Mr. Murtala Falalu have been barred from holding any Executive Position within the party for two years and one and a half years respectively while the former Communications Officer, Mr. Abubakari Abu Omega, former Youth Organiser, Muazu Mamuda, and former Women Organiser, Madam Haruna Fuleraare also barred from holding executive positions in the party for a year each,” one of the letters stated.

In total, five executives including the constituency organiser and women organiser were sacked in the Salaga South constituency while two others were sacked in the Daboya-Mankargu constituency.

The affected executives were suspended earlier this year following a complaint filed by some members of the party after the 2020 elections for various breaches.

Daboya-Mankarigu constituency was the only constituency in the Savannah Region where the NDC lost in both the presidential and parliamentary votes in the last election and the first time the party lost any presidential votes in the region.

It is currently unclear what the affected NDC executives did for such actions to be taken against them.

Twice rejected Kumawu DCE nominee finally secures 100% endorsement — Kasapa102.5FM

The District Chief Executive nominee for the Sekyere Kumawu District in the Ashanti region, Samuel Addai Agyekum has finally been confirmed by the Assembly members of the district.

The twice rejected nominee of President Nana Akufo-Addo secured an overwhelming endorsement of 100% Yes votes in the 28 total votes cast.

The assembly members have warned they will pass a vote of no confidence in him if he fails to change his attitude towards them.

They said, rejecting him twice before the intervention of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah speaks a lot.

“As assembly members, all we look forward to is development and respect from our DCE but if you do otherwise we will equally respond otherwise”.

The DCE expressed gratitude to the assembly members for approving him and assured to work in unity for the development of Sekyere Kumawu District.

Acting only gave me fame and nothing else – T.T Taxi Driver fame

Acting only gave me fame and nothing else – T.T Taxi Driver fame

Veteran Ghanaian actor, Psalm Adjetefio popularly known as T.T, has disclosed that the only benefit he got from his many years of acting was a good name and not riches.

According to him, for a very long time in his acting career, he was cheated and not being paid his due. “And it was late to do anything about it when I found out.”

Talking to Kwabena Boafo on Happy 98.9 FM’s Obra Yi Edition of the NsemPii show, he said, “To be honest I got nothing out of acting except the fame. People occasionally gave me gifts alright.”

The movie legend stated that he has always loved to make and see people happy, and hearing people say he made them happy is something he deems as an achievement.

“I have always loved to impact people’s lives and make them happy, so I believe someday I will get my reward,” he said.

Citing an example he said, “When it came out that I was ill, I got people calling in from outside the country volunteering to contribute and help me seek medical attention. Most were willing to do so because they said I made their childhood fun and memorable. I consider all these as my reward. Although the money is also important, it is not always about the money but the fact that people see and appreciate what you do for them.”

The award winning actor despite all the challenges and hardships shared says that he still has no regrets going into acting because it is something he loved doing.

The Ghanaian actor has featured in over 100 movies and videos and he is best known for the lead character T.T in the Ghanaian TV series Taxi Driver.

Easy On Me: Is Adele’s comeback single a hit or a miss?

Easy On Me: Is Adele’s comeback single a hit or a miss?

After a slow-burning PR campaign, Adele’s first new music in six years has arrived.

Easy On Me, a spare and emotional piano ballad, was released at midnight UK time, offering fans the first glimpse of her “divorce album”, entitled 30.

That will be her follow-up to massively successful albums 19, 21 and 25.

Easy On Me sees Adele explaining her decision to walk away from her marriage in 2019, while asking her son and ex-husband for understanding.

“I changed who I was to put you both first,” she sings, “but now I give up”.

That moment, so naked and unvarnished, sends shivers down your spine.

Adele’s voice is full of regret, but also resolve.

In the accompanying music video, director Xavier Dolan chooses this moment to transition from black and white to full colour – making clear that this is the sound of a woman who has dismantled her entire world, realising that she needn’t feel guilty for putting herself first.

Adele addresses the chorus, “go easy on me”, to herself as much as her family – and she accepts it’s too soon for them to see her point of view.

“I had good intentions / And the highest hopes / But I know, right now / It probably doesn’t even show.”

The song was apparently the first track written for Adele’s forthcoming album, and dates back to the year of her separation. The immediacy of those emotions is apparent in her vocal, simultaneously strong and vulnerable.

But there’s also a generosity to the song. Adele is reaching out to the people she’s hurt, but Easy On Me is also a big woolly blanket wrapped around the loneliness and pain of anyone who’s been through a core-shaking break-up.

It’s already proved to be a hit. Just under 300,000 people tuned in to watch the video premiere on YouTube. Within 12 hours it had been streamed 12 million times.

The single comes just five weeks before her new album – which was first teased in a global marketing campaign that saw the number 30 projected on to buildings and billboards in Brazil, Mexico, Dubai, Italy, Germany, Ireland, the US and the UK.

Fans correctly guessed the release date of 19 November when Taylor Swift moved her forthcoming album forward by a week, apparently to avoid a clash with Adele.https://emp.bbc.com/emp/SMPj/2.44.0/iframe.htmlMedia caption,Easy On Me is the first new music released by Adele in six years

Like her previous three albums the title is a reference to a specific age in Adele’s life.

Thirty is the age at which she married her long-term partner, Simon Konecki, and then left him.

The star has said the album was recorded to help her nine-year-old son understand their divorce the following year.

“I wanted to explain to him through this record, when he’s in his 20s or 30s, who I am and why I voluntarily chose to dismantle his entire life in the pursuit of my own happiness,” she told Vogue magazine.

“It made him really unhappy sometimes. And that’s a real wound for me that I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to heal,” she added.

Speaking to BBC Radio 2’s Zoe Ball, the singer said the album “was bloody hard work to make”.

“I was singing things I didn’t even realise I was feeling or thinking,” she said, adding that it was important for her to share those emotions with the world.

“I feel like I can’t unlock a door for my own mental health and take the key with me. I’ve got to leave it in the door for everyone else – and I’m in a strong place now where I feel like I can put that vulnerability out.

In a separate interview with BBC Radio 1’s Greg James, she admitted that her friends hadn’t been too impressed by Easy On Me when she played them the demo.

“I sent a snippet of it, as I was writing it, to three of my closest friends,” she said.

“One didn’t like it, one was like, ‘keep trying’, and the other was like, ‘I’m busy working’. So that was the perfect response.”

Once it was finished, however, “they loved it”.

“And I don’t do any music in my time off. It’s not a muscle that I exercise – writing or singing,” she added.

“So most of the time, even just for my best friends and my manager, their first reaction, no matter what the song is, is, ‘it’s just nice to hear you sing’.”

New sounds

While Easy On Me is very much a traditional Adele ballad, there have been hints that the rest of the album will showcase a more experimental side to Adele’s music.

According to Vogue, one track features her vocals “sampled and resampled over a hypnotic beat”, that is reminiscent of electro-pop act Goldfrapp.

She has also worked with London-based producer Inflo – responsible for the retro R&B sounds of Michael Kiwanuka and Little Simz – as well as the Oscar-winning composer of the Black Panther score, Ludwig Göransson.

Radio 2 DJ Jo Whiley, who has been played a handful of the songs, said there are “all kinds” of sounds and genres on the album.

“There’s one that I listened to and it just made me feel incredibly sad,” she added. “She really does pour her heart out and her voice, I think, has never sounded better.

“I was really surprised by the heights that she reaches – and the power and the resonance within her voice is amazing.”

The music world meanwhile has been reacting to Adele’s long-awaited return, with Canadian star Drake alerting his Instagram followers to the fact that “one of my best friends in the world just dropped a single”.

Solo star and former Fifth Harmony member Normani declared: “Adele oh Adele I love uuuuuuuu.”

Elsewhere, Clueless film star Alicia Silverstone posted a humorous video on TikTok of her preparing to drown her sorrows while listening the London singer’s latest heartfelt offering.

However it sounds, 30 is certain to be a shot in the arm for the UK music industry.

Only one British album released since the start of 2020, Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia, has sold the 300,000 copies required to be awarded a platinum disc.

It took her 10 months to achieve that feat. By contrast, Adele’s last album, 25, went platinum in its first 24 hours.

It went on to become the UK’s 14th best-selling album of all time, with sales in excess of 3.6 million.

Embarrassment of riches

Sony, her new record label, will be hoping to match those sorts of sales heights – although the CD market has declined precipitously since 2015; and Adele’s streaming numbers don’t yet match those of her peers.

She currently has 22 million monthly listeners on Spotify, compared to Ed Sheeran’s 75 million and Taylor Swift’s 46.5 million.

New music will undoubtedly boost those figures, however, even if Adele faces stiff competition from Sheeran, Swift, Abba and Coldplay, who will all release new material in the coming weeks.

Martin Talbot, chief executive of the Official Charts Company, described the pile-up as an “embarrassment of riches” that is almost unprecedented for the music retail sector – but he predicted Adele would emerge on top.

“It would be a brave man who predicted anything other than 30 being the biggest album of this Christmas,” he told the BBC.

“And, with certifications now also reflecting streams, as well as traditional physical and download sales, it is in with a strong chance of going platinum in its first week.”

Darko Vibes cites what the music industry can learn from music promotion in Nigeria

Darko Vibes cites what the music industry can learn from music promotion in Nigeria

Ghanaian singer, Darkovibes, has encouraged Ghanaians to look beyond competition with the Nigerian music industry and learn from them.

He is of the view that Nigerians put a lot of efforts in their music promotion and the Ghanaian music industry can replicate that.

He was speaking in an interview with Happy FM’s Doctar Cann on the ‘Ayekoo After Drive’ show when he said: “Nigerians use their money and influence to push their music and I feel like they are working very hard because they understand the system and they are manipulating the system. So, as Ghanaians we should understand that they have seen a loophole and taken advantage of it. We should also see that loophole and take advantage and make sure to be at par with them if not pass them.”

Darkovibes intimated that the presence of social media platforms and streaming platforms has made the world a global village. Hence, Ghanaians must take advantage of these platforms to promote their music.

He observed also that Nigerians are adventurous people who love to travel and explore. He concluded that this attitude of theirs is always an advantage for them in their music promotion.

Meanwhile, the ‘Je M’appelle’ singer has assured that, “Nigerians also feel our music. If we push and we go extra harder, the Nigerians are ever ready to support us and embrace us.”

Darkovibes recently dropped a new song ‘Je M’appelle’ which features Nigerian musician, Davido. On this extra-joyful song, the two artists and their beatmaker MOG draw inspiration from South African gqom to deliver rapid and light-hearted verses, dabbling in French to honor their West-African compatriots.

The video sees both singers rocking Ghanaian outfits, getting in the vibe of a party and enjoying themselves in luxury cars.

VDF calls for investigations into unprofessional conducts at Ho Teaching Hospital — Starr Fm

VDF calls for investigations into unprofessional conducts at Ho Teaching Hospital — Starr Fm

newmont ghana

The Volta Development Forum (VDF), has called on the management of the Ho Teaching Hospital in the Volta region to investigate allegations of unprofessional conduct and medical negligence against some of its staff.

The VDF in a press statement issued and signed by its Executive Director, Daniel Agboka-Dzegede revealed that it had received several complaints of staff of the hospital abusing, intimidating and insulting patients who visit the facility for medical care.

According to the Forum, it is concerned about the reports and called on the management of the hospital to launch an investigation into to issues so as to save the image and reputation of the hospital.

“We are concerned about the reported gross disrespect and inhumane treatment meted out to the sick by men and women trained with the taxpayer’s money to save precious lives.”

“Throwing away professional virtues and values by the health officials at the facility does not only put vulnerable lives at risk but derails the gains made thus far, in providing quality health care delivery in the Volta region, as well as impacting negatively on Ghana’s quest towards the achievement of Goal 3 of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals hinged on access to quality health care for all,” the statement added.

While calling certain reforms at the facility, the VDF also urged management not to allow inexperienced health practitioners such as students to undertake “major or delicate surgeries on any patient, especially pregnant women during cs.”

Mr. Agboka-Dzegede further called on the management of the hospital to ensure that, “the facilities at the covid cases isolation center should be properly maintained and be friendly and conducive to patients. We also understand the conditions there are not up to standard and could become the center of Covid rather than treatment.”

Management’s response

But in a swift counter-response, the Ho Teaching Hospital has indicated that, “the Board and Management have initiated the processes of investigating all the concerns raised in the press statement.”

“Additionally, the Board acknowledges that there may be weaknesses in the systems instituted and has initiated the process to assess the system and work towards exceeding the expectations of all our clients,” the statement added.

The release signed by Amos Jah, the Public Relations Officer of the hospital, went further the say, “We humbly appeal to our cherished clients/stakeholders not to hesitate to approach Management for a redress of their concerns when the established systems fail to address their concerns relating to our services,” while assuring the public of the hospital’s commitment to quality and safe healthcare, which is of its core values.

Jealousy, lack of knowledge and understanding – Celestine Donkor on disunity among gospel fraternity

Jealousy, lack of knowledge and understanding – Celestine Donkor on disunity among gospel fraternity

Celestine Donkor

Gospel singer Celestine Donkor has spoken against the apparent discord among her colleagues in the industry. She described the problem as issues arising out of sheer jealousy and lack of understanding and knowledge about their roles in ministry.

Celestine Donkor made an appearance on TV3 News, where she detailed the unfortunate plight of the gospel association. She revealed that some gospel musicians have formed groups amongst themselves who like to alienate from the rest in the industry.

“Yes, they are real. They are existing, but I see it as a lack of knowledge and understanding of what we are doing and sheer jealousy. If we believe that we are children of one God, then we are siblings, and we should be happy about each others success.

“I reached out to a lot of people via phone, via dm and, say please, I have this new thing out, check it for me. Some of them ignore it. Those who ignore me when I see them release I post. Sincerely, I desire them to see how it feels to be supported.”

Celestine expressed concern about this behaviour and how it casts their work as ministers of the gospel in a bad light. She questioned how they would relate in heaven if they could not live amicably on earth.

“I appreciate those who see this not as a competition, but they see it as a ministry. How are you going to survive in heaven if you have a competitive spirit? If it is true that one day we are all going to stand before the Lord and sing one song, how are you going to survive that? If somebody’s voice is a threat to you. If you are a gospel artiste, and there are people you can’t click with, how are you going to click with them in heaven?

According to her, the benefits of working together is too enormous to be slighted over petty issues.

“The more you connect with more people, the more you are seen and heard. And so you are actually doing yourself a lot of harm if you are working with just a few when there are thongs of musicians you can connect with. Imagine we have a thousand musicians, and thousand are posting your new release in a day. That’s an assured promotion. You do it. I do it for you when it’s your turn. We all do it for each other. It’s a win-win.”

Haruna Iddrisu rallies MPs for ‘make-or-break’ anti-LGBTQ Bill

Haruna Iddrisu rallies MPs for ‘make-or-break’ anti-LGBTQ Bill

The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, has rallied his fellow legislators to back the controversial anti-LGBTQ+ Bill in Parliament.

At a press conference on Friday, October 15, 2021, Mr. Iddrisu said the Bill had full bipartisan support, with all MPs united in “holding high the moral flag of our country.”

He views the consideration of the bill as make-or-break for Ghana’s moral fabric.

“Certain issues of significance either make or put asunder the collective unity of people of a nation at critical moments in its history, and the Parliament of Ghana must stand the litmus test.”

While he expressed confidence in both sides of the House, he added that “if anybody fails you, it is not the NDC Minority.”

The Minority Leader expects a high degree of rigour in the consideration of the Bill.

“Every accompanying sentence, we will insist on a vote, including amendments to every provision,” Mr. Iddrisu said.

“We will do what is legally needful within the 1992 constitution clause by clause, and we want every member of Parliament to get counted and to stand to be counted as reflecting the aspirations of Ghanaian people.”

Mr. Iddrisu’s opposite on the Majority Side, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, was less emphatic when talking about the Bill on Wednesday and said Parliament should ensure that the rights of citizens are protected.

While he said democracy is about majority rule, he added that “it doesn’t also mean we should trample on the rights of others.”

“The appropriate thing will be done,” Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu remarked further on Parliament’s consideration of the Bill.

Parliament is currently receiving memoranda on the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill ahead of its resumption later in October.

While data indicates that most Ghanaians are in favour of the Bill, it has face criticism from renowned artists and academics.

The Bill prescribes that people of the same s3x who engage in sexʋal activity could spend up to 10 years in jail.

Varying forms of support for the LGBTQ+ community will also be criminalised if the Bill, known as the Promotion of Proper Human sexʋal Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill 2021, is passed into law.

NPP’s Victory 2024 roadmap should include empowerment of grassroots – Dr China

NPP’s Victory 2024 roadmap should include empowerment of grassroots – Dr China

A former Director of Finance and Administration at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Headquarters, Charles Dwamena, who is also Ghana’s immediate past Deputy Ambassador to China, has indicated that the implementation of policies that will empower the party’s grassroots is essential for victory in 2024.

Addressing scores of delegates on the sidelines of the Western Regional Annual Delegates Conference, which was held on the 12th of October 2021 at the University of Mines and Technology, Dr China, as the former Diplomat is popularly called, highlighted the need for the party to empower the grassroots through innovative and sustainable programmes such as a Business Incubation Fund and a Human Resource Empowerment program.

He said that the Business Incubation Fund and the Human Resources Empowerment Programme are policy proposals, which when properly implemented, would create avenues for party members to expand existing businesses or create new ones and also create scholarship opportunities for those who wish to pursue higher education.

Present at the Conference were the Western Regional Minister, some National Executive Officers, Regional Executive Officers, Constituency Executive Officers, MMDCEs from the Region and other party stalwarts.

Charles Dwamena is a two-term former Branch Chairman of the NPP China Branch and a former Chairman of the Asia Pacific Caucus of the New Patriotic Party which is made up of the Australia, China, Japan and Korea Branches of the NPP.

He is highly tipped to be elected the next National Treasurer of the NPP at its 2022 National Executive elections given his excellent track record exhibited during his tenure as the Director of Finance and Administration at the Party Headquarters.

Jean Mensa knew there was ballot stuffing in 2020 elections – Mahama

Jean Mensa knew there was ballot stuffing in 2020 elections – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has accused the chair of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs Jean Adukwei Mensa of being aware of ballot stuffing during last year’s elections.

According to him, the ballot stuffing that occurred in the 2020 polls had never been witnessed before in Ghana’s past elections.

Mr Mahama who was the president Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said “2020 was Ghana’s worst election. If I was marking her, I would have given her an F. She is marking her own paper after examination so she can give herself any mark she likes.”

“Tell me which election in Ghana was ballot papers printed yet one million ballot papers were found elsewhere… We didn’t witness this under Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan. She [Jean Mensa] knew there was ballot stuffing.”

His comments come after Mrs Mensa has expressed pride in the process and outcome of the December 7, 2020 elections of Ghana, recommending same to other West African nations.

She said Ghana’s latest election has become a case study for most advanced democracies in the world that they are ready to take a leaf or two from it.

Shemade this known on Wednesday, October 13 while speaking at the opening of the High Level Meeting of the Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas) in Winneba, Central Region.

“To the glory of God, I am pleased to say that Ghana held an election in December 2020 that prove the story of elections in our sub-region can indeed be an inspiration.

“That our story as West African states has been one that brings hope to our youth and light to the coming generations and that we can provide best practices the most advanced democracies of the world can learn from. Yes, we can!”

She described the elections as “historic” in many ways.

“I humbly refer to Ghana’s 2020 elections as historic for the transparency, the credibility, the cost-effectiveness, the high turn-out and the peaceful conduct that characterized it.

“So orderly, so methodical, so calm were the polls on the 7th of December, 2020 that BBC could find no other way to describe our elections than boring.”

Nonetheless, immediately after the elections, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) raised concerns about the conduct of the polls, challenging the outcome in court.

The party’s Presidential Candidate in the elections, John Dramani Mahama, petitioned the Supreme Court over the results but that petition was unanimously dismissed by a seven-member panel headed by the Chief Justice, Kwesi Anin Yeboah.

The largest opposition party has since tabled some reforms to the Commission to be implemented ahead of the next elections, in 2024.

Mrs Mensa told the Ecowas MPs that, above all, “all our electoral processes and the election itself were conducted at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic without the spread of the virus”.

Don’t hinder any aspirant eyeing NDC flagbearer slot

Don’t hinder any aspirant eyeing NDC flagbearer slot

Former President John Dramani Mahama has urged the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) not to hinder persons who want to become the party’s flabearer for the next general elections.

Addressing party stakeholders as part of his ‘Thank you’ tour in the Western Region on Thursday, October 14, 2021, Mahama said the party must rally behind any candidate who will emerge victorious after their primaries.

“From next year, we (NDC) will begin our branch, constituency, regional and national elections. From there we will do our flagbearership elections.”

“The NDC is a democratic party so all those who show interest and qualify to contest must be allowed to do so. We must all support whoever emerges victorious into the 2024 elections, and I am certain that God will give us victory,” he said.

Duffuor to contest NDC flagbearership?

There have been rumours about some senior members of the NDC lacing their boots to contest the flagbearer slot.

In a video making rounds on social media, a former Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, is seen soliciting support for the party ahead of the 2024 elections.

Though it is unclear whether the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana would contest for the flagbearer position, sources indicate that there is a possibility.

However, some big wigs in the party believe John Mahama is the NDC’s best bet at winning the next elections.

One of such persons is the former Deputy Minister for Youth and Sport, Joseph Yamin. Mr. Yamin.

In a post on Facebook, he said the NDC shouldn’t allow anyone to contest John Mahama in the party’s next presidential primaries.

Another person with a similar position is former Minister for Youth and Sports and Member of Parliament for the Odododiodoo constituency, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye.

He has even gone ahead to predict a massive defeat for any member of the party who contests John Mahama for the flagbearer position.

“John Mahama is our next candidate. We are going to endorse unanimously him as our candidate in the next congress.  Anyone who will be courageous enough to come forward will not have more than 1%.”

“This does not mean we do not have other viable candidates. We do, but John Mahama is the candidate people identify more with. They have come to identify with him more.”

You made noise when I was in power, but quiet now

You made noise when I was in power, but quiet now

newmont ghana

Former President John Dramani Mahama has said he is not afraid to open his three accounts for a probe to prove his incorruptible nature.

This was in response to what he claims were the vile lies and propaganda peddled against him while in government.

Speaking on Cape 93.3 Fm in Cape Coast, the former leader dismissed claims of owning a Swiss bank account insisting he operates just three bank accounts domestically including ADB, Zenith, and Guarantee Trust bank.

“I don’t have any foreign account anywhere, I have three bank accounts – ADB, Zenith, and Guaranty Trust bank. If you want to investigate me, investigate those banks, my money is all there.”

He said the media has spared his opponent (President Akufo-Addo) and his government from criticisms in respect of corruption matters compared to what was seen under his government.

“You made so much noise, and now you’ve all gone quiet. You’ve all been cowed, you can’t talk. There were all kinds of propaganda against me. They said Lordina and I have stolen 100 million dollars into a Swiss Account. How would you get access to that kind of money? Worl Bank money doesn’t come to Finance Ministry. It’s with the BoG, how do I go to them to ask for such money and transfer it to a Swiss account?

He claimed under him, all the corruption-related matters were dealt with frontally, saying that same cannot be said under his opponent’s government who shielded public officials embroiled in corruption allegations.

“BOST, Agyapa, PDS, missing excavators, and galamsey fraud with smoking-gʋn evidence have all been swept under the carpet. I recently heard the President talking about the names given to him by Ghanaians and sadly, he forgot to add the name Clearing Agent,” Mr Mahama said.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has said the mere allegations against public officials did not amount to improper conduct because the affected persons must also be listened to for their explanation.

He contends he has not shirked from fighting against corruption and will not retreat in ensuring that people manning state anti-graft agencies acted in the interest of Ghanaians.

“I don’t think that any government has mobilized resources to give opportunity for the anti-corruption agencies of the state to function efficiently as possible as this government has done. It is a matter of record,” he said in an interaction with Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition.

Darko Vibes reveals how he got Davido on Je m’appelle

Ghanaian highlife and rap artiste, Paul Nii Amu Andrew Darko, who identifies in the music space as Darko Vibes, has revealed how he got the Nigerian-American superstar, Davido on his latest hit, ‘Je m’appelle’.

Speaking in an interview with Doctar Cann on the Ayekoo After-Drive Show which is aired on Happy98.9FM, he first stated that he chose Davido for the song because the musician is a big man and someone who appreciates African music a lot.

“He loves to see young talents like me pushing hard or pushing the narrative so I met him in town sometime ago and I told him that big bro, I’m working on my album and please I’d like you to bless me”, he said. According to Darkovibes, that was all it took to have Davido unhesitatingly agree to feature on his album.

“He came through, shot the video, wore kente in the video and even spoke Ga, and I desire to say God bless him and his whole team. I love them”, Darkovibes further expressed.

Je m’appelle is one of the songs of Darkovibes’ Kpanlogo album which features a selection of Africa’s finest musicians including Mr. Eazi, Joey B, King Promise, Runtown, Stonebwoy and of course, Davido.

‘I’ll score 2020 polls an F; it’s the worst we’ve had since 1992’

‘I’ll score 2020 polls an F; it’s the worst we’ve had since 1992’

Former President John Dramani Mahama has once again taken on the Electoral Commission (EC) over the conduct of the 2020 general elections insisting the commission did a shoddy job.

Speaking in an interview on Cape FM, in the Central Region, as part of his “Thank you tour” Mahama also expressed misgivings at the Supreme Court’s ruling in the 2020 election petition.

He insisted that the ruling wasn’t in tandem with the rights and freedoms enshrined in the 1992 constitution.

“[The ruling] looked like the Supreme Court had its predetermined verdict. But we accepted it for the peace of this country. I think a lot of things went wrong [during the 2020 polls]. It’s one of the worse [elections] we’ve had in this country since 1992.”

“In an election that for the first time eight persons were k!lled, how can someone say it was the most peaceful, an election that for the first time, EC ballot papers were leaked with some spotted in cars and bushes? So If I am marking this election, I’ll give it an F,” he said.

The former President had earlier refuted claims by the Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa, that the 2020 general election is the most credible poll in the country’s history.

The former President who was responding to Jean Mensa’s statement at the ECOWAS Parliament said her inability to appear before the Supreme Court to defend questions about the 2020 election results is a clear sign that the election was not credible.

Mr. Mahama said this while addressing the Divisional Chief of Prestea Himan, Nana Nteboah Prah on Thursday, October 14, 2021,

“The manner in which the Supreme Court dismissed our election petition was not fair. An election petition case has been heard in this country before. When Nana Akufo-Addo sent his 2012 election petition case to court, it was accepted. Afari Gyan responded to his questions.”

“But when it got to our turn…we were not allowed to ask our questions. In 2012, Asiedu Nketiah was asked to testify. In 2020, he was called again to testify. In 2012, Afari Gyan was asked to mount the witness box. But in 2020, when Jean Mensa was asked to mount the witness box, she refused. I heard her saying the other time that the 2020 election is the best election Ghana has ever had. If she is convinced that it is the best election Ghana has ever had, she should have mounted the witness box,” he said.

Suhuyini denied visa by Netherlands Embassy  — Starr Fm

Suhuyini denied visa by Netherlands Embassy  — Starr Fm

newmont ghana

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South Alhassan Suhuyini has been denied a visa by the Netherlands Embassy on the grounds that he may not return back to Ghana.

Suhuyini in a rejoinder sighted by Starrfm.com.gh said he has appealed to the decision by the Embassy and would report them to Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to deal with the matter when he hears from them.

The MP further said the reasons cited by the Embassy amount to disrespect to the Ghanaian State Officials and Diplomats.

“Beautiful family and deny me an entry visa on the basis that; there was insufficient evidence that I have significant social or economic ties to my country to prompt my return after my intended visit, could only have been deliberately taken to provoke me and also undermine Ghanaian state officials and diplomats,” the rejoinder had it.

Alhassan Suhuyini is among the eight (8) Members of Parliament (MPs) who are promoting the LGBTQ bill in Parliament.

Speaking on Starr Chat with sit-in host Francis Abban on Starr FM Wednesday, he pointed out that the biggest challenge of those in the LGBTQ community is harassment they suffer from Ghanaians who abhor the act.

The lawmaker said the LGBTQ bill will enhance the law on assault thereby protecting persons in the LGBTQ community from abuse.

“Once that bill becomes law you can report somebody and actually get a lawyer to prosecute that person on your behalf for attacking you because you were accused of being gay,” Hon. Suhuyini stated.

Below is the full rejoinder.

Rejoinder: Suhuyini reveals recent visa denial, refuses to link it to LGBTQ+

I have seen news publications suggesting that I was denied a Visa by an unnamed Embassy due to my association with the PROMOTION OF PROPER HUMAN sexʋal RIGHTS AND GHANAIAN FAMILY VALUES BILL, 2021.

Since I received correspondence that communicated the decision of the said Embassy, I have been inundated by calls from well-meaning Ghanaian reporters and activists who without never believe believed that this very offensive decision of the Embassy is related to Bill seven (7) of my colleagues and I are promoting.

I consider myself deeply reflective and fair-minded, so I restrained myself and all those who tried to convince me that the reasons for my denial of the Visa were either than what the correspondence from the embassy communicated. I assumed at the time that the Protocol Officer, who at the time of processing my application was also dealing with other equally important domestic issues, may have faulted in the documents presented.

I, therefore, have since taken steps to appraise every document or information and have since appealed the Embassy’s decision.

However, all the information I now have convinced me that the Protocol Officer submitted all appropriate documents.

Therefore, for the Netherlands Embassy to ignore my;

1] status as Member of Parliament of Ghana with the responsibility to an entire Constituency, which was known to them.

2] valid travel visas to the UK and USA and my numerous previous travel record where I have never overstayed.

3] beautiful family and deny me an entry visa on the basis that; there was insufficient evidence that I have significant social or economic ties to my country to prompt my return after my intended visit, could only have been deliberately taken to provoke me and also undermine Ghanaian state officials and diplomats.

After the determination of my appeal, I will make a formal complaint to our country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to deal with this gross disrespect.

Anyone with the slightest knowledge of me knows that as a young person, even when I lived in conditions that justified migration abroad and migration was popular, I was never attracted to it, I’m a proud Ghanaian who believe in contributing to making our country attractive too to foreigners. How lame, If the penalty for supporting the PROMOTION OF PROPER HUMAN sexʋal RIGHTS AND GHANAIAN FAMILY VALUES BILL, 2021 is the denial of an entry visa into the Netherlands.

Anti-gay bill: Minority will insist on clause by clause vote on every word – Haruna

Anti-gay bill: Minority will insist on clause by clause vote on every word – Haruna

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu, has said that the Minority will insist on a clause-by-clause vote on the anti-gay bill which is currently before the House.

Addressing a press conference in Accra on Friday October 15, he said, there is need to ensure that this bill reflects the will and aspirations of the people.

“I have heard arguments that say that where does the Speaker stands , Let me remind ladies and gentlemen  of the  press that the Speaker of Parliament  and every other speaker  of parliament, past or present,  are citizens of Ghana  first  and leaders of the country and have  the right to  espouse it principles and values on any  matter of national  interest or concerns.

“They are expected to provide nothing more than leadership. We in the minority will insist a clause by clause vote on every word, every accompanying sentence. We will insist on a vote including amendment of any provision. We will do it legally needful within the 1992 constitution clause by cause and we will want every Member of Parliament, I am not reoffering just to one side, to get counted and to stand to be counted as reflecting the aspirations of Ghanaians,” the Tamale South Member of Parliament said.

The Promotion of Proper Human sexʋal Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill was laid in the House on Monday, August 2 and read for the first time.

Reading for the first time, a clerk in the legislative assembly stated that the Bill proscribes LGBTQI and other related activities and propaganda or advocacy and promotion for same.

It also came to light that it supports protection for children and persons who are victims or accused of homosexuality.

Second Deputy Speaker Andrew Asiamah Amoako referred the Bill to the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Committee for consideration.

“For the first time, it is referred to the Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs for consideration and report,” Mr Asiamah Amoako, who is also the MP for Fomena, directed.

The controversial bill has already divided opinion in the Ghanaian public discourse.

While some, particularly the religious and traditional groupings, have supported the Bill and hopeful of its passing, others say it could incur the wrath of the international community against Ghana.

Private legal practitioner and one of the influential persons who are against the bill, Mr Akoto Ampaw had said proponents of the bill are adopting old tricks by making baseless accusations against persons who have raised concerns against it.

He said claims that those against the bill are receiving funding from external donors are unfounded.

He further indicated that one of the proponents of the bill, Ningo Prampram Lawmaker, Samuel Nartey George cannot lecture him on human rights activism as far as the rights of homosexuals are concerned.

Mr Akoto Ampaw said he has been a human right activist for years hence, Sam George cannot talk to him about rights and freedoms.

“Anybody who knows me  and most of the people who are behind this  press conference will know that we have  been fighting  for human rights and freedoms  of our citizens  for years  and we have paid a price for it  so I will not have the likes of Sam George  trying to talk to me about  human rights and national  independence and so on.

“But we have a clear evidence  of their group  organizing in November, October  last year an  African congress  with the World Congress of families,  which is not a Ghanaian organization so  he and his people should be last people talking about foreign influence. They will take  refuge in the fact that we are being  influenced foreign forces, we know this trick, they are busy collecting funds from these  same foreign people and governments so what are they talking about.”

Sam George had criticised the anti-bill group including Akoto Ampaw and Prof Kwame Karikari over their position on the bill.

He described them as hypocrites following their submission.

Sam George said if he is asked to score Professor Karikari on his submission, he would give him an F.

Prof Karikari had said the bill which Sam George and some of his colleague legislators are promoting is dangerous because it seeks to promote hate for homosexuals in the country.

In the view of Prof Karikari, gays and lesbians are human beings and deserve to be respected and protected as any other person.

To that end, he said, any law that seeks to create problems for this group should be rejected.

He said this while speaking on the First Take with Dzifa Bampoh on 3FM on Monday October 4.

He said he and a few of his colleagues who are fighting for the rights of homosexuals to be respected in Ghana are going to hold a public forum to debate this subject.

“Hopefully, the media may also want to pick up the debate, debate them so that the public will instantly get to know the views that we hold and the views that the proponents of what we considered to be a dangerous bill also hold.

“We think we live in a democracy and we must be grateful to God that we live in a democracy so that whatever parliament, the executive or any branch of government does will be openly discussed and people can therefore take their decisions and then the lawmakers and the executives can also take some wisdom from the public debate.

“We know that most societies have prejudice against homosexuality, lesbianism and these other social practices. We are not at all surprised that the overwhelming majority have prejudiced or even hate these small minority of people in society. We have no problem with that. What we are saying is this.

“This law is setting up the minority up. Our constitution does not discriminate about humans beings unless the proponents of this bill, unless the 95 per cent who say they don’t like homosexuality, we want them to say that homosexuals, lesbians are not human beings. Are they human beings also are they not human beings?

“If they are human beings and they are human beings then we think that they are protected by the constitution so any law that is made to arouse, promote engineer and mobilize hate against that minority is against the rights of those minority people and should not be passed.”

Speaking on the same programme, Sam George said “He has made so many sweeping comments and I expected that he would have been held to strict proof. His argument is hollow and if I was marking this as a script he will score an F.

“This is someone who says the constitution protects people, you [Dzifa Bampoh] read to him a section of the bill which provides protection for persons who identify as LGBTQ from extra judicial treatment and he tells you it is a hoax.

“This is the same person asking us to provide proof of the health challenges, the public risk that the LGBTQ community proposes and he is telling you that our bill is a hoax without any proof.

“Today 4th October, the head of the Ghana AIDS Commission, speaking to another media house in Accra decried the increasing prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Ghana and the fact that HIV prevalence in Ghana is rising. In that interview, he was asked specifically which demographic is pushing this number up, he said men having s3x with men. That is the empirical evidence. Now can you ask Prof Kwame Karikari and his cohorts what empirical evidence they have to say that say part of our bill is a hoax? Has he educated himself and has he read the bill or he is basically just running riot in town on the basis of their misconception?”

Lord Commey turns down calls to contest NPP National Chairmanship

Lord Commey turns down calls to contest NPP National Chairmanship

The Director of Operations at the Presidency, Lord Commey, has downplayed calls for him to contest the position of National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr. Commey who has served as National Organizer for the NPP in the past suggested that any attempt to compel him to contest for the National Chairmanship will not happen any time soon.

“I appreciate your love and I thank you for the clarion call, but for now it has to be shelved for a while,” he said at the NPP Greater Accra Regional Delegate Conference in Accra on Thursday, October 14, 2021.

He however used scripture from the Bible to give hints about his long-term ambition.

“Isaiah 60: 22 says when the time is due, I the Lord will make it happen,” Mr. Commey affirmed.

Right now, Mr. Commey said his focus was on making sure the NPP won the 2024 presidential poll.

“I don’t care who becomes the chairman of the NPP. I don’t care who becomes the party’s flagbearer for 2024. What I care about is that the NPP continues to reign in this country. It is no joke,” he said.

So far, only a former Information Minister under the Kufuor Administration, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, has declared his intention to contest the National Chairmanship position of the NPP.
